Changing Habits
I hear many brides to be saying they want to lose a certain amount of weight before their big day and proceed down a dangerous diet journey. Which I have learnt over the last few years is not the best mindset to have. Although I try to focus more on self-acceptance and positive body image at any size, I do realise there are a lot of people who want to look and feel their best for their wedding day by losing some weight to look good on camera. Let me tell you, I’m always working on this myself. The difference in my mindset is I’m working towards commitment to healthy habits forever. So how does for life sound?!
I know this sounds scary. COMMITMENT!! FOREVER!!
But what if I told you there is a better way than going on a restrictive diet and intense exercise program. Because going down this way could either leave you binge eating, disappointment, self loath or you could reach your goal, but then what? Was that route you chose, realistic and sustainable for you?
Once you figure out that nutrition and fitness doesn’t have to be restricted or punishment and that in fact it will make you feel great and enhance your life.
Believe me when I say changing habits is not going to be easy. I have struggled with this for 10 years. But 3 years ago I decided to change the path I was on and commit to forever. Ive had my ups and downs. Even just more recently I felt myself turning to old habits. I found myself bingeing again and my confidence was low, I was obsessing about food again and even was thinking about joining with Jenny. When my husband made me realise everything I have learnt over the last few years, Jenny was not the answer. So instead of letting everything fall apart again, I decided to reach out to one of my local nutritionist (friend) for some help. Because what I’ve learnt along the way that motivation and supportive mentoring can be a game changer.
Focus on one habit at a time, make small changes here and there. Experiment with different exercise you enjoy. Don’t think of food that you can’t have and focus and what you should have and what makes you feel good. Find ways to make nutritious food taste delicious.
Keep your end goal healthy habits forever in mind and don’t let short term gains tempt you. You have one life on this earth and so many wonderful days as a married couple ahead. I would love for you to enjoy your life without being consumed by the diet restriction, fitness grind for the rest of your days.
You have to decide what you want more, bad habits that bring you instant gratification and comfort or new habits that will be uncomfortable and hard at first, but will make you glow from the inside out for the long haul.
