Wedding Budgeting: Tips and Tricks

Wedding budgeting can be a daunting task, especially with the average cost of an Aussie wedding reaching upwards of $36,000. However, with a little bit of planning and some smart budgeting tips and tricks, you can have the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank. Here are some handy tips and tricks courtesy of a Devonport wedding photographer.

Begin by setting a budget

Before you start making any plans, sit down with your partner and determine how much you are willing and able to spend on your wedding. This will give you a starting point for all of your planning decisions. It can be really overwhelming once you start venturing down the wedding planning path - all the pretty (and overpriced) offerings that you never even knew you wanted - so the second part of this tip is to be strong and stick to your budget.

Prioritise your expenses

Once you have a budget in mind, make a list of all the items you would like to include in your wedding and prioritise them. For example, you may prioritise having an amazing photographer over a fancy wedding cake. It’s all about deciding what aligns with your values as a couple and allocating the funds there.

Shop around

Don’t be afraid to get quotes from multiple wedding vendors. It is important to compare prices and find the best deal for the services and products you want.

Add DIY touches where you can

Doing things yourself or enlisting the help of friends and family can save you money and add a personal touch to your wedding. For example, consider making your own centrepieces, creating your own wedding favours, or having a friend officiate the ceremony. Not only are these budget-friendly options, but you will remember those moments forever.

Be mindful of the timing

Opting for a wedding on a Friday or Sunday, instead of a Saturday, can often result in a cheaper rate. Similarly, having your wedding in the off-season, such as autumn or winter, can also result in a lower cost. Even I have a mid week special.

Be selective with your guest list

The more guests you have, the more expensive your wedding will be. Consider having a smaller, intimate wedding with just close friends and family. There should be no guilt attached to the guest list. It’s your special day, so it’s about who you want to share it with - and couldn’t stand to do it without. Mary from your 8th grade English class will survive sitting this one out, promise.

Get creative with your wedding venue

Renting a hotel ballroom or a traditional wedding venue can be expensive. Instead, consider a less traditional venue like a park, a beach or a historic estate. This can often be more affordable and offer a unique backdrop for your special day.

If you’re in Tassie, as a Tasmanian elopement photographer, I can recommend some beautiful intimate wedding venues in North West Tasmania for elopement ceremonies. Remember what it’s all about

In conclusion, with a little bit of planning and creativity, you can have the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank. At the end of the day, remember what is truly important and have a wonderful time celebrating your love with those closest to you.

And, for capturing all of those moments with your nearest and dearest, I would be honoured to be considered as your Tasmanian wedding photographer of choice.
